Combining public holidays with weekends can give you extended breaks without using many PTO days. Here’s how you can leverage upcoming holidays for longer trips:

• Labor Day (September 2, 2024)

  • Take Friday, August 30th off, and you’ll have a 4-day weekend from August 30th to September 2nd.

• Columbus Day (October 14, 2024)

  • Take Friday, October 11th off, and enjoy a 4-day weekend from October 11th to October 14th.

• Veterans Day (November 11, 2024)

  • Take Friday, November 8th off, for a 4-day weekend from November 8th to November 11th.

• Thanksgiving (November 28, 2024)

  • Take Wednesday, November 27th off, and you get a 5-day weekend from November 27th to December 1st.

2. Weekend Getaways

Plan for trips that require minimal PTO but offer maximum relaxation or adventure:

• Friday Off Strategy
  • By taking just one Friday off a month, you can turn a regular weekend into a 3-day getaway. This strategy works well for short, local trips where travel time is minimal.

3. Maximizing End-of-Year Holidays

The end-of-year holidays are perfect for longer vacations. Here’s how to extend your holidays:

• Christmas and New Year (December 25, 2024 - January 1, 2025)
  • Take December 23rd, 24th, 26th, 27th, 30th, and 31st off. This gives you a substantial break from December 21st to January 1st, totaling 12 days by using only 6 PTO days.

4. Tips for Efficient PTO Use

• Plan in Advance: Look at the calendar early in the year to identify key holidays and plan your trips around them.
• Combine Remote Work: If your job allows remote work, consider working from your destination to extend your stay without taking additional PTO.
